PERFORMING ARTS FACULTY
"For me, teaching Drama is like leading an expedition into a vast, unexplored landscape of Movement, Sound, Emotion, and Excitement... only, instead of packing a bunch of gear and baggage for the journey, we empty ourselves of everything, so we can pick it all up along the way."
John Forier, Middle and Upper School Drama

"Music is an integral part of a child's life. It provides a language for expressing emotions and a backdrop for movement, as well as an avenue for enhancing brain development and experiencing awe and wonder. Students develop persistence, learn to take responsible risks, strengthen their abilities to work on a team, and strive towards accuracy in performance. Music classes are filled with energy, challenges, accomplishments, delight, and laughter."
Judy Herrington, Lower School Music

"I believe in creating community through music. From the sixth graders in beginning band to the most accomplished seniors, we all have a special relationship with each other, as well as with the
music we perform."
Heidi Huckins, Middle and Upper School Instrumental Music

"I approach teaching with a people first, music second philosophy. My classroom is an experience in reckless precision; an infusion of passion and technique."
Scott Kendall, Middle and Upper School Vocal Music

Performance

The Performing Arts Department at Charles Wright Academy provides students with the skills to become confident performers in Music and the Dramatic Arts. Our faculty's teaching balances these skills with a strong focus on developing...

- Passion
- Trust
- Empathy

- Creativity
- Expression

- Personal Commitment

The Performing Arts Department is dedicated to instilling a lifelong involvement and appreciation for the arts.

One performing arts credit is needed to meet graduation requirements. There are three areas in the performing arts: choral, drama, and instrumental. While a variety of courses are offered, students are encouraged to maintain their involvement in the performance area of their choice.

There are several classes and combinations of classes you may take to fulfill your Performing Arts requirement. Some courses require an audition or permission of the instructor.
